How do you apply Bow and Arrow and Spartan herbicide?

How do you apply Bow and Arrow and Spartan herbicide?

We are often asked how do you apply Bow and Arrow and Spartan? So we thought we would answer these questions in simple terms.

Bow and Arrow

Bow and Arrow is a post emergent herbicide designed to be applied to visible weeds. It treats a large range of broadleaf weeds such as clover, creeping oxalis, bindii etc

Application Process

1. Work out how many sqm of lawn you are treating.

2. Bow and Arrow needs to be applied at a rate of 50ml of product in 5L of water over an area of 100sqm. If you have 150sqm of lawn you will need 75ml of Bow and Arrow in 7.5L of water.

3. Shake the bottle thoroughly and then mix Bow and Arrow + water in a pressure sprayer. You can't use a hose on bottle or watering can to apply it.

4. Spray the lawn making sure the application is as even as possible. A flat spray nozzle is far better than a cone style nozzle for this application.

5. Do not water the product in. Allow it to dry on the lawn.

Notes

a. Bow and Arrow is absorbed through the leaf of the weed so make sure you don't mow a few days before or after application (at least 3 to 4 days). This ensures there is enough leaf on the weed to absorb the herbicide and then also give it enough time to travel through the weed and kill it.

b. Bow and Arrow is safe on couch, kikuyu and buffalo lawns.

c. Follow all safety directions on the product label

Spartan

Spartan is a pre emergent herbicide designed to prevent weeds from popping up through the soil and offers up to 6 months of protection. It is designed to target grassy weeds such as winter grass, crab grass, paspalum etc

Application Process

1. Work out how many sqm of lawn you are treating.

2. The label will have various application rates depending on the weed being targeted, as an example for winter grass 40ml in 5L of water is effective over 100sqm. As above if you have 150sqm of lawn you will need to use 60ml of Spartan in 7.5L of water.

3. Shake the bottle thoroughly and then mix Spartan + water in a pressure sprayer. You can't use a hose on bottle or watering can to apply it effectively.

4. Spray the lawn making sure the application is as even as possible. A flat spray nozzle is far better than a cone style spray nozzle for this application.

5. Water the Spartan in with at least 6mm of water but not to the point of run off.

Notes

a. Once the weed has appeared Spartan will not treat it so you need to time your application in order to get the best result. Timing will be different depending on where you are located, as an example for Perth, Western Australia an application in April and again in October works well.

b. Do not apply if heavy rain is forecast within 48 hours of application.

c. Do not apply to turf which is not well established.

d. Follow all safety directions on the product label.

FAQs

Can Bow and Arrow and Spartan be applied together?

The simple answer is no as Bow and Arrow needs to be left to dry on the lawn while Spartan needs to be watered in.

How long do I need to wait after applying one to apply the other?

If you apply Spartan first you need to wait for it to dry prior to applying Bow and Arrow, as a general rule it is best to leave a few days in between in order to minimise the stress on the lawn.
